Research Interests

My primary research interests include (1) identity and major/career development, (2) career counseling practices, (3) group counseling, (4) assessment applications and (5) innovative curricula designs for undeclared majors or declared majors with uncertainty.  With particular emphasis on multicultural factors that influence decision-making processes for historically underserved student populations (i.e., low-income, first-generation) in higher education, with special regard to Hispanic, specifically Mexican-American, populations.  For each of these foci areas, my approaches of study are influenced by holistic counseling theories and student development models including, but not limited to, Narrative Therapy (a Postmodern Philosophy), StrengthsQuest Student Development Program (a positive psychology model), Liberation Pedagogy, Schlossberg's Transition Theory, and Critical Theory.
